Canada claims to be a 'First world country' because of its political stability, economic stability and an overall comfortable standard of living. Shockingly, not all Canadians are able to make this claim - especially when it comes to safe drinking water for every Canadian. Sadly, some First nation Communities are currently living in third world conditions because they do not have access to safe drinking water. How can this be possible in this day and age in Canada with our state of the art technology, our Canadian reputation of tolerance, fairness and decency, living in one of the richest, most advanced countries in the world? Shamefully, in this great country of ours, this is a reality! It's a fact! How is this possible? More than 80 First Nations communities are currently under “boiled water advisories” and have been for over 20 years, and 21 communities are deemed to be at high-risk for contamination. For decades, this problem has been overlooked and pushed to the back burner. This is a real threat to human health, which is completely unacceptable! We are talking about this happening right now in Canada! It is a crisis when our first Canadians, especially children, are forced to live under such tragic circumstances. We need to come together as responsible, empathetic citizens to take action to pressure the Canadian government to act on fixing this problem in a responsible, effect and prompt manner. Please join me and sign my petition to support my cause.

The government has yet to respond to our demands but their silence only proves that we need to keep the pressure on. Post this link on your Facebook page today and email your local MP to force them to address these water advisories.

The momentum behind this push for clean water proves that people are no longer willing to ignore these conditions in First Nations communities. We need to keep the pressure on the federal government by sending an email to your local representative demanding they prioritize permanent infrastructure. Post this petition on your Facebook wall today to make sure this crisis stays at the top of the national conversation.

Thanks to my niece in Mississauga for doing this important research as part of her work in a high school course. Unsafe drinking water in some First Nations is unacceptable. Let's see what PM Trudeau has in mind to address this.
