This petition is for the concerns of the residents in Liberty, SK. They have been under an advisory since about 2004. Their water comes from a dug out and is filtered, however, it is not advised to drink, bath small children, brush your teeth or even do your dishes or laundry in, unless some other form of sanitization is used. This is 2011 in Saskatchewan in Canada and when living in a town, village or city, people should not have to haul water. The cost for a small town or village to provide better water is too high and is not fair to raise property taxes when the property taxes are already higher than some larger communities with more amenities. This year seems to be the worse it has ever been. Running the water or even doing laundry will smell up a person's entire house. It is not drinkable and is not to be used for any sort of consumption, and you are not to bath children in it. This makes it difficult since there are several young families with young children. The village has a reverse osmosis system at the fire hall where you are allowed to fill up 2 X 5 gallon jugs per day. It angers me that this is 2011 and in this country and province, people have to haul water and boil it to even bath their children in! Small children starting to put toys in their mouths and pull on their clothes to put into their mouths, it is suggested that their parents drive to Imperial which is approximately 25 KM away to wash their child's clothes at the laundramat. The town switched the chemical used to treat the water on July 12th, however did not notify any residents until the week of August 2nd. It has been suggested that if they do not like the water "situation" to move. People have put their houses up for sale, but potential buyers are turned away when they are told about the water. How can we grow our Saskatchewan, grow our Canada, and have our farming and agriculture communities grow and attract new people (which is one of Saskatchean and even Canada's most valuable trade) if we can not provide one basic service, clean water. I am asking that you please sign this petition to have the provincial and federal governments step in and correct this problem. We should be providing the people of Canada with clean drinkable water.
