This spring Strong School's grounds were overtaken by an infestation of digger bees turning our Field Day into "Blacktop Day" and forcing our children to play inside or in a parking lot for the last month of school. The District chose to do nothing to take care of the bee infestation which created a dangerous situation for children with bee venom allergies and took the fields away from all of the students at Strong School.

This summer the District met with a state DEEP specialist who gave them the option of reconditioning Strong's fields over the summer to help lessen the impact of the bees next spring. At this time, the District still has not committed to taking any action to deal with the bee problem at Strong School saying that reconditioning the fields "will require an extensive amount of upfront labor/equipment, watering and ongoing maintenance."

Please sign this petition to let the Southington Board of Education know that our children deserve to have fields that are safe for everyone to play on. If something is not done now to try to mitigate the bee problem at Strong School, we will have an even bigger problem come next spring.
