Hatch Field was intended for use by Exeter's lacrosse, soccer & field hockey teams. The fundraising campaign promised alumni and parent donors a new facility that could be enjoyed by multiple Exeter teams. Unfortunately, a hard surface similar to old-school AstroTurf was installed on the field. Because this surface is dangerous for any sport other than field hockey, no other varsity team is willing to use Hatch Field. This deprives hundreds of Exeter athletes from a safe option for practice and games during inclement weather and the early spring.
Please sign our petition to encourage our beloved Exeter to honor the original goals of the fundraising campaign and protect our athletes. It is relatively inexpensive to replace the current field hockey surface with a safer, deep-pile product from the same manufacturer.

I have compiled the technical specifications regarding the current surface and sent them to the facilities department for review. We are currently awaiting a formal response from the athletic director regarding the original project contracts.

The recent increase in support confirms that the athletic department must address the issues with Hatch Field. I am currently finalizing a formal letter to the school board to request a meeting regarding the replacement of the field surface.

The promised multi-surface field will help keep PEA competitive and our student/athletes safe. PEA - this is an easy one.
Thanks for the email, Dave. Not sure why I wasn't already aware of this: my niece features in the video (taking the last faceoff) and I've got three other family athletes at or recently graduated from PEA (two daughters and another niece). Unfortunately, none plays field hockey. At the very least, I'd like to hear the Academy's explanation. I've never heard of a dedicated field hockey pitch before...and clearly they're using it inappropriately, as the video demonstrates.
This is an opportunity to insure Exeter Athletes have access to the safest and best facilities and also fulfill the mission when this plan was originally put forth and financially supported by the Alumni
We need to make this surface safely playable for both Girl's and Boy's Lacrosse programs
do the right thing.

I would not have supported this project if it did not include a field for the lacrosse program. This is an inexpensive fix for the academy and should be done immediately to honor the agreement made with the donors for the field.
