WHAT:This petition is asking the San Jose Sharks management to give the women on the Shark's Ice Team the same uniforms as the men on the team (which, on their official website, is shown as black fitness pants and a Sharks jacket) and allow the women to wear their hair up.

WHY: The women shown in the pictures on the Shark's official website are wearing tight, black fitness pants and fitted cutoff Sharks jerseys that shows their midriffs. It is also noted on the website that for auditions "Women should wear their hair down and not in a ponytail or up do". The job description for the Ice Team involves "fan entertainment, on-ice maintenance throughout the game, and assisting with on-ice tasks" as well as appearing at "community events, social outings and viewing parties" while also stating that "Skating experience is not required".

Since the women on the Ice Team will be expected to become public figures representing the Sharks and San Jose, they should not be dressed in a way that objectifies them and women as an entire gender. This gives a message to all female fans, including young girls, that appearance takes precedence over athletic skill (the job requirements list physical appearance and positive personality over skating skills), doing a job to the best of your ability (women often need to wear their hair up to get it out of their eyes) and even safety (falling on the ice is more dangerous if your skin has less protection).
