We, the students of the Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH) write this petition to
demand mental health care in our school. It will be sent out to our school's perfects to discuss and take action.
Studying in an art programme demands a lot from one's psyche. Working with your
body and mind and digging into your sensitivity on a daily basis is often hard to handle,
especially if there are no tools to deal with the impacts. And of course now, covid-19 has made things even more complicated and heavy.
The student health care system for the university students in Stockholm (Studenthälsan)
is not enough to cover the needs of our students. There have been incidents of people
in need of urgent help that had to queue three months to meet a psychologist. This is
not helpful, and the students are left unsupported. Having a therapist available in our
campus, with the understanding of the art context, would support our students to sustain
their holistic health during their study time at SKH. There would be less absence from
classes, less study breaks and less quitting of studies.
We need a full-time employed therapist in our school to make our studying and future in
the art field easier.
Det är helt sjukt att man får vänta flera månader när man mår dåligt. SKH måste ta tag i detta nu innan fler kraschar.

Yes! I think it is necessary! The Covid new situation, often eating disorders , mild mental issues, the fast-forward world we are living in, can actually put a lot of pressure on the art students mental health.

This is about time! As a former board member at SKH I know this has been a request and demand from the student body for several years. I strongly encourage the leading group to take this matter very seriously, as the school is loosing students, artistic ambitions and well-being with the current system.

This is already in practice in many other presticious art educations I'm aware of. The mental health care from student hälsa has not happened to be adaptable to many of my peers needs as art students. I wish future generations of SKH would have the privilege of having a possibility to meet with mental health care professionals who understand the field and the specific pressures art students tend to be subject to.
