Hey guys! Some friends and I have been considering the mental health situation surrounding the corona virus that has been inevitably resulting from the stressful factors in the past few days. We believe that, even though physical examinations and classes have been cancelled, the academic stress is too much for a lot of people that are at the same time concerned for their family's, friends' and personal health and safety. While we understand that examinations still have to take place in some manner, right now most of our brains are probably more occupied with the question of how to deal with this situation without losing our sanity. Basically, we are proposing to approach the board with a request to postpone the deadlines for about a week to give people the opportunity to collect their thoughts and organize a safe environment for themselves and others by investing the necessary time for developing a strategy to contribute to curbing this problem for our broader social environment. This is especially important, as we are a community of people that often don't have the opportunity to just leave for a space where they do inherently feel physically and emotionally protected. What are your opinions on this? Do you also feel kind of overwhelmed right now and would agree with needing more room to breathe and think? If you do, please sign this petition, which will be shared directly with the academic staff.

The feedback from students has been overwhelming and confirms we are all at a breaking point. I am currently drafting a formal proposal based on your stories to take directly to the board.

The momentum is undeniable. This proves just how many of us are struggling to keep our heads above water right now.

LUC students often have to work together, which is hard if your group mates are panicking or not even present in the building.

Suspending classes is good for physical health, suspending assignment deadline is good for mental health

A lot of our assigments are group projects which require a lot of communication and preferably meetings IRL. This is, however, harder to communicate nowadays, given that a lot of students leave or have already left the AVB residency.

We need to stand together and focus on what is important right now - staying safe. Many types of work, especially in groups are difficult to do without face to face meetings, and the understandable worries students have regarding what to do and others leaving is enough to occupy everybody's time. Lets focus on rest and being there for ourselves and our loved ones.

Deadlines for assignments just add to the immense amount of stress and worry people are already experiencing with what is going on. Right now we need to work together to create a situation that is healthy for everyone (assignments can also be demanding for professors!)

Both individual and group work is being particularly exhausting in these recent days. When meeting other students 80% of the conversation topics are regarding the current Corona virus outbreak and it is clear that It’s on everyone’s mind. Personally, the crisis has caused me a lot of mental and emotional distress and general exhaustion. I’m still trying to figure out what to do next and whether to fly home, it is just absurd that I have to worry about academic deadlines at the same time.

I could not agree more with this petition. Mental and physical health must be the priority. Right now we are busy dealing with this situation, and deadlines just add on the great amount of stress and worry.
