Ensure The Safety Of PS 45's Students

The "stop and drop" program has created a dangerous situation. Impatient drivers, trying to get around the line of parents dropping off their children, drive on the wrong side of the road, speeding through the crosswalk that is at the center of the school zone: the intersection of Harvest Avenue and Davis Avenue. It is a matter of time before a serious injury or fatality occurs. We call upon Principal Christine Chavez to personally ensure that a crossing guard, a uniformed police officer, a parent volunteer, a teacher, an assistant principal, or even the school's prinicipal herself, be stationed at this intersection during stop and drop -- to safely escort students and parents across the street. This type of intervention has been used effectively at other schools (e.g. P.S. 35 and I.S. 61) and is urgently needed at P.S. 45.
