The University Advisory Committee (UAC) is currently conducting the Board of Regents' Presidential Search at WCSU. We, the Western Connecticut State University community, formally ask that Dr. Jane McBride Gates, the current Provost and V.P. of Academic Affairs, be considered as the fourth candidate in the search. She has worked hard as the chief academic administrator at Western Connecticut State University and has carried out her responsibilities for all aspects of the academic mission, from meeting new students and helping them integrate into the WCSU community to the administrative businesses of the schools and other units that are central to the academic enterprise to the best of her abilities and beyond. Dr. Gates not only listens to the students and invites them into the WCSU community wholeheartedly, but also takes the time to know the students, the faculty, and the staff on campus as individuals. She is already familiar with our campus and is updated on all of the dynamics between our different Schools and Departments, so she would be an ideal choice for the future of Western. Please sign this petition in support of Provost Gates for our next WCSU President!

The feedback from our community regarding the presidential search remains remarkably consistent in its commitment to Provost Gates. I am currently coordinating with faculty representatives to ensure these perspectives are presented formally to the University Advisory Committee.

Please consider Dr. Gates as the fourth candidate. Whenever I see her she is all smiles. She is happy to be surrounded by the WCSU community. If she doesn't know an individual, she makes an effort to get to know a little about them. She's motivational, kind, and caring. Because she is already a part of the WCSU family she knows the ins and outs and is comfortable with anything WCSU related; therefore, I believe she should be given another chance as a presidential finalist. Please consider Dr. Jane McBride Gates as a candidate in the search for the next WCSU president. She is a capable and passionate leader who has proven herself among the student body and faculty alike. WSCU would be lucky to have her as its next leader.
As an alumni of WCSU I completely stand by Provost Gates. As a student leader on campus, I had the privilege of working with her on a regular basis. She fights for students and hears us!
Disappointing and nonsensical are two no more appropriate words in seeing that Dr. Gates is not being considered a candidate for President of Western Connecticut State University. Internal promotion ensures a proper fit between the candidate and the organization, especially in this case considering the dedication and involvement Dr. Gates has displayed to the university over the years as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. Gates is more familiar with the unique culture the current student body has than the other candidates, and her experience at this university will surely prove invaluable as President. The familiarity and rapport which has already been established would be shameful to overlook.
Seeing as though my time is limited here at WCSU, I would personally discourage my children from ever attending my own school if Dr. Gates is not at least considered.
She would be the perfect person for the position.
Dr. Gates deserves it!

I am signing this petition because I fear that the current three candidates will not have in mind the community of students at WCSU, specifically the clubs and organizations because in reality no matter what university students go to there will be academics and sports. However, it is the student life and involvement that make a big difference. Ex.) Western Adventure Club. and numerous other awesome clubs that fear the new President will be careless toward the students.
