Final supporters
We, the undersigned, are concerned about a shortage of Honors and AP classes Mark Keppel High school since the implementation of the Open Enrollment policy. Many highly qualified students were not placed in the advanced courses they need to excel in high school and gain admittance to quality colleges and universities We urge the Alhambra Unified School Board, Mark Keppel administration, and, teachers to work together to increase the number of Honors and AP classes offered.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please include your name in the comment field. This will assist us in demonstrating to Alhambra School District Board members that we have support from MKHS's parents, friends and students (please feel free in writing in Spanish or Chinese ). Many thanks!

Muchos estudiantes calificados no pudieron tomar estas clases por la falta de cupo, debido a la nueva politica de “Open Enrollment” o Inscripciones Abiertas.Estas clases son necesarias para sobresalir y poder tener acceso a universidades y colegios de calidad.
De la manera más atenta sugerimos a los miembros de la Mesa Directiva del Distrito Escolar de Alhambra, a la Directora y maestros de Mark Keppel, que se aumente el numero de clases de Honores y Colocación Avanzada (AP).
Aviso Importante:Favor de escribir su nombre adonde dice “comment field”.Es importante demonstrar su apoyo y de esta manera que sepan que los padres de familia, amigos y estudiantes estan con nosotros.

My son, Jeffrey, excels in math. He requested AP Calculus for this school year and did not get it. I was livid and very upset and disappointed. How is a student supposed to excel if they are playing the lottery with their future?!
I understand the reason for the Open Enrollment policy at MKHS, but at the same time, it saddens me to hear that many students who have been working diligently and high achieving have not gotten the opportunity to take the AP courses that are offered. I believe that if there is a high demand and if students are qualified to take AP courses, our school district should work on training more teachers to instruct those courses. It's important to maintain quality education for every students.
The school should make sure they have enough AP classes to meet the demand first before they implement the open enrollment policy. Equal Access does not mean Equal Result.
It because of this system that i didn't get a class that i signed up for 4 months before the registration due date.
We need more AP and Honors classes. If there are not enough of these, the students with higher GPA should get priority. The "Open or Equal Access" policy hurts the high-achieving students.

It seems to me that the way the system worked last year was to work to close the achievement gap by bringing down some of the kids who were doing well by limiting their chances. Lets get things straightened out at Keppel.

As a MKHS parent, I can't imagine that advanced students have to beg for a spot in AP and Honors classes. AUSD should not allow the school administrators randomly select which students should fill the AP and Honors classes. When are the next school board elections? November?
