Fairfax County Public Schools: Don't pass a 2014-15 class size increase without county-established class size caps.
Many Fairfax County schoolchildren are assigned to very large classes. They must often deal with cramped spaces, more stressful environments and less of the individual attention they need.
And it might get worse next year. To help balance the 2014-15 budget, class size may be increased even more next year. Another class size increase without county-established caps will put even more children in unfairly lower-quality, oversize classes.
Fairfax County doesn't have its own class size caps. FCPS consents to Virginia's high state caps of 29-35 for elementary school! We must do better than that. In addition, Virginia establishes NO caps for middle and high schools.
County-established caps will protect children from excessively large classes that damage their education.
We, the undersigned, urge FCPS: Don’t pass a 2014-15 class size increase without county-established class size caps.

ive been reading through all the comments and its clear so many of you are worried about how these numbers will actually impact the classroom experience for our kids. im working on getting a meeting set up with the school board to show them exactly how many of us are concerned about these proposed increases.

Class sizes are already a concern. Can you imagine teaching MORE than 30 first graders (the current limit) the basics of how to read and write? Add in special needs and ESOL students and many kids will slip between the cracks and not reach their potential. Make this a priority!
Our classes are already too big, more than 30 in classes at Wolftrap is the norm. Its a big difference when a teacher has 22 students vs. 31as is the case in other schools in the county. Please get our kids in smaller class sizes capped at low 20s'. thank you!
I know my daughter's success in school depends in part on the class size, allowing the teachers to notice and intervene when issues present themselves -- this has already happened twice this year. Please preserve the smaller class size!
As a former teacher I understand the compromises a teacher is forced to make when the class size becomes too large. I endorse the establishment of class size caps at every level. Inclusion classes and regular ed classes should have a smaller cap size than advanced courses.
The county needs to set a cap. Class size matters in the education children receive, and there should be a limit to this madness. I would much rather see cuts at the administrative level in FCPS rather than in the classroom.

PCPS can't afford to waste our tax money to create an LGBT curriculum in FLE classes, while increasing class sizes because of its $100million budget deficit. Focus first on class size and reducing cuts elsewhere before adding spending on something so many parents object to and don't want taught.

AAP class sizes are disproportionately large compared with gen ed. My son has 33 kids in his 6th grade class (and has had about that many for the past few years) at Louise Archer in Providence District. The gen ed classes have 17 students each
