We, the citizens of the city of Ann Arbor, petition the School Board to continue the funding of Chinese Level 4, and 5AP courses in The Ann Arbor Public Schools.

There is a large group of students that are going into level 4 and 5AP Chinese classes in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. The school board has cut funding to these courses. This leaves a large number of students with an incomplete education in their language course and forces them to either take a level 1 language course on none at all. This makes the students look much worse in the eyes of colleges as well as leaving them without a complete education.

I demand that the Ann Arbor School Board continue to fund Chinese Level 4 and 5AP courses in the Ann Arbor Public Schools for the 2013-2014 school year and all of the years to come.

The emails I get from parents and students about the loss of these courses are heartbreaking. I have been spending my nights trying to get a meeting on the board calendar so we can actually be heard.

Reaching this level of visibility in the face of such stubborn silence from the board feels like a shift in our favor. My energy is drained by the constant back and forth but seeing this level of public backing keeps me locked in on the goal.

My son has worked so hard to get to level 4. Cutting this now is just unfair to the kids who actually put in the effort.

Ridiculous. AAPS talks about preparing kids for the future then cuts the exact programs colleges are looking for. Keep the funding.
