In 2015 Dumfries and Galloway Council asked its people their opinion on proposed flood protection solutions for the Whitesands area of the town. After consultation, people were asked to choose between three options put forward by the council despite there being less expensive and more popular alternatives in the frame.
On November 10th, despite huge disapproval by the people of Dumfries, the Council voted to create an Earth Bund, taking away views of the river and substantial car parking and creating the potential for an extended period of havoc for businesses and town dwellers alike.
We, the undersigned, ask that the decision be overturned and better and less expensive alternatives be considered.

This would be such a dreadful thing for Dumfries. There are other alleviating measures that can be taken, like dredging and properly managing the river and its floodplains, and removing the extensive levees protecting agricultural land upstream.
Take a trip to Perth and see their gates!! Can't believe how blinkered you lot are!! There are plenty of examples how this device works well, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Nobody seems to want your monstrous "bund" except yourselves. It begs the question - WHY??
An expensive ugly and unnecessary addition to the town. I am concerned where the water will go at the end of the structure and wonder what the people who live and work in the park area feel about what must be a higher risk of flooding for them.
I do not believe that plans approved by Dumfries councillors are in the best interest of Dumfries town or its residents and ask that that alternative flood prevention solutions are considered and put to the people for consultation
Please look further into the automatic barriers, maybe putting them between the car park and road, so when it floods, the car park is still used as a flood plain, but the road and shops are safe. This could help elevate the problem being pushed further down river.
Leave the whitesands and greensands alone thy spent far too much on this already people of Dumfries don’t want it
the council designed the defense of the city center along the river, regardless of the fact that water would overflow from the riverbed in other areas, flooding houses

Too much of the Burgh of Dumfries's historic past has been demolished without a trace apart from a plaque or two. Shame on planners for sinking it further into the ground by risking one of the most iconic views of Dumfries.
