Yorkhill Elementary School is a school rich in diversity, community and heart of many Thornhill residents. It is a school for which many residents chose their neighborhood to live in. We want to have the ability to continue on the French education pathway that our students are enrolled in, and be given fair access to a school nearby in L4J side of Yorkhill. The enrichment of another language is clearly wanted in our own community.The need for French is huge, with four Grade 1 French immersion classes currently at Yorkhill, and 2-3 classes of both Grade 2 and 3 French, with more French teachers being needed in Sept.
Bussing our students to a school not in our neighborhood causes a lot of inconvenience (siblings separated, more time at home due to bus cancellations, parents having to choose to stop French education due to school distance etc). We wish to have the ability to have the choice to stay, if possible, for as long as possible.

The conversations with local parents show how much this community values local French education. I am currently reaching out to school board representatives to demand a better solution for our families.

I strongly beleive to continue french program as a second language that gives our kids more global view of CANADA and the world and has positive impact on their intellectual growth and cognitive. Dr. Ellie Salehi
It seems counter-intuitive to get these pupils functioning well in French, and then to stop developing it further. I think it is important to maintain the momentum
I'm fully in support of this - I would love my child to continue his FI education at York Hill once he gets to Grade 4
It would be great for our kids to be able to continue French at the same school as their siblings and friends. Just going into grade 4 it would be a shame to make the kids start over making new friends and going to a new school.
