Is it fair that children who live across from a school are told to travel close to an hour to attend another school?

Is it fair that children who live in the community are unable to attend their local community school?

Is it equitable that the boundaries for a school have been decided based on whether you live in an apartment or condo or in a million dollar home?

This is what is happening to the Earl Haig Secondary School boundaries in the Willowdale district.

The Willowdale community is growing at a tremendous rate. The population in this community has already reached the planning numbers that were predicted for 2041!! Majority of the people who are moving into this community are new to Canada. As new immigrants where are these families going to live? In the more affordable housing option - apartments and condos. But the Earl Haig Secondary School boundaries prevent them from having access to the secondary school that is close to their home. IS THIS FAIR???

TDSB has redesigned the boundaries for K - 8 schools in Willowdale so that children who live in front of the school or in close proximity of the school will now be allowed to go to the closest school but the secondary school boundaries have been left untouched.

It is time that TDSB looks at equality FOR ALL CHILDREN and let children who live closest to the Earl Haig Secondary School be allowed to go to that school.

Reaching this point in our campaign has been exhausting yet it proves that people are finally paying attention to this systemic exclusion. I am drained by the fight but seeing this level of momentum keeps me focused on the kids who deserve better.

Please reconsider the boundaries to be fair and equitable to all children irrespective of the type of home they love in. Living in a condo should not mean only those children must travel further away. Be fair. Be mindful of the impacts of decisions.

This type of economic discrimination should not be allowed as it goes against our basic Canadian rights. All students regardless of where they live should be able to attend the school in their local community.

I live close to earl haig where it is walkable but my kids will be expected to take 2/3 buses to northview as that is our school.

Please consider the changes since our kids will have to spent more time to travel instead of learning

It is a shame that we live so close to the school but not able to attend the school,

I totally support this idea of kids going to the closest secondary school. My kids go to go Avondale Public school and I wish Earl haig becomes their secondary school.

Very unfair!

Why would living in a condo or an expensive house have to do with school to attend? Why would you force kids to add additional commute time just to make it to school on time. Everyone should have the freedom of choice to attend whatever school they please.
