We are residents on or around Spruce Street. For many decades, our corridor was peaceful as cars and trucks could not turn directly onto Spruce from Christopher Columbus Boulevard. When the City of Philadelphia allowed these turns to be possible (without community engagement or adequate study), the car and truck traffic onto Spruce increased substantially, harming the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and our quality of life. We request of Councilman Squilla that the former, longtime arrangement be reinstated: Prohibit cars and trucks on Christopher Columbus Boulevard from turning onto Spruce.

I have submitted a formal request for a traffic impact study to the office of Councilman Squilla. We are currently finalizing a detailed breakdown of the recent accident patterns on Spruce to include in our upcoming presentation to the city planning commission.

Living on Spruce Street has become quite dangerous. Between cars, buses, heavy trucks, motorcycles, we literally fear for our own lives every time we leave our houses. Especially on week-ends, the intense traffic coming from nearly four different directions has made it quite difficult to live here. And let us not forget the racing motorcycles and loud radio playing at 2:00 AM. My family has lived here for nearly 30 years. We love our neighborhood and have continued to pay the increasingly high real estate taxes(Probably the highest in the city) Please give us some consideration. Thank you!

Since making 000 Spruce Street 2-way the Spruce Street motor traffic is unruly. There is a heavy and loud traffic flow with drivers often traveling at high speed throughout the day and night. It is unsafe for other drivers and the many, many pedestrians (neighbors and tourists) walking in the area.

This traffic pattern needs to be changed back. It is having a serious effect on quality of life and was done with no resident input or engagement. Each erosion to living here peacefully and quietly moves the needle to moving away.

We live on the 200 block of Spruce Street and have noticed a dramatic increase in traffic (cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs and other vehicles) when turns from Columbus Boulevard to Spruce Street have been allowed. We strongly support permanently prohibiting this turn.

Please stop the direct traffic turning onto Spruce Street. When we first moved here 9 years ago, Spruce street was peaceful and safe. Now, loud and fast spreading motorcycles, trucks and cars are given free range to disturb our neighborhood. Please change this policy back to the original traffic flow. Thank you

The sound from motorcycles and “loud” vehicles blaring up Spruce street is again relentless and unbearable . During the period when access from Columbus Blvd was closed, there was a drastic drop in traffic and noise. The level of noise has caused us to consider leaving the city and is an enormous strain to those of us who live at street level and in townhouses.

To Organizer. Why don't you share this on the Society Hill FB group, and on nextdoor.com?

Before we purchased on Delancey, we almost purchased on Spruce. We walked over one evening and we could not believe the congestion on Spruce street. It needs to go back to 1 way for sure!
