PRESERVE RIVER ROAD AND WHITE SAND CREEK BRIDGE We, the undersigned, are citizens of the Great State of Mississippi and have an interest in, and a fondness for, the history of our State in general, and Lawrence County in particular. We recognize the significance of that route, now known as River Road, in the exploration, settlement, and expansion of Lawrence County and the surrounding areas. We cherish its contribution to the pattern of our history and development, specifically its importance in the social history and commerce of the local area, the state, and the region. We appreciate the road’s connection with the people that are at the nexus of our common heritage. We recognize the distinctive characteristics and integrity of the road, including the unique surrounding ecological areas. We further recognize that the road and its immediate environs may one day yield further information integral to the understanding of our shared past. Therefore, we urge the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to consider protecting this monument to history by designating and protecting it a historic landmark under the State Antiquities Act.
