Irish Sea Conservation Zones (Freshfield to Seaforth Rocks) Potential Sea Fishing Ban

Maps have been revealed showing two possible marine protection zones off the Merseyside coastline. Hilbre Island in Wirral and coastline from Formby to Seaforth in Sefton are identified as important sites of marine life in a report by the Irish Sea Conservation Zones (ISCZ) Project. The areas could become protected Marine Conservation Zones with restrictions on fishing and sea leisure activities. The possible zone on the Sefton coast plans to protect the intertidal peat beds that occur in an area covering 11.5km2. Preserved within them are remnants of a submerged ancient forest and also examples of ancient human and animal footprints. Over 200 trails of footprints from the Mesolithic to Neolithic ages have been recorded. Why decide to do this now in 2011?It's our fishing marks and fishing gear at stake here,please sign the petition,spread the word on other forums,stand up and be counted!
We the petitioners oppose the formation of the conservation plans for the area of Merseyside because we want sea angling & bait digging to continue on our coastline

Reaching this point has been a struggle and frankly I am exhausted by the constant uphill climb. Seeing this level of backing helps me find the focus to keep pushing against these proposed restrictions.

Bait digging and fishing is how we spend our weekends. Enough with the restrictions already!!!
Leave the anglers alone. We look after the beach better than anyone else.
Fishing is part of our heritage here in merseyside. You cant just shut everything down because some bureaucrat said so.
Ridiculous. They want to ban fishing to protect some mud? My grandfather fished here and I want to take my kids too.
Been fishing these marks since I was a lad. Its just another way to lock us out of our own coast. Leave us alone.

Total joke. Nobody is hurting the peat beds by casting a line from the beach. Hands off our coast!
