Rother District Council proposes two bye-laws that firstly ban fishing on the beach in a designated area from 9.00 to 18.00, from 1st May to 30th September.
Secondly, they propose a bye-law that forbids fishing 'in such a manner as to cause danger, obstruction or annoyance to any person using the seashore'. This applies to the WHOLE of Rother shoreline e.g. Pevensey Bay, Herbrand Walk, Bexhill and Pett Level to Camber.
Sussex sea anglers and their supporters say that this is unreasonable and unacceptable. We do not accept banning groups of beach users as a constructive way of engaging with the local community or visitors to the areas, whether we are fishing, riding a horse or walking a dog.
We say NO to these bye-laws and call on the council to remove them.

The council has not responded to our inquiries yet so we need to turn up the volume today. Post this link on your Facebook pages and email your local Rother District councillor to demand they drop these unnecessary bans.

9 to 6 is the whole damn day! Might as well just ban fishing entirely and be done with it.
Ridiculous! Rother council needs to find something better to do with their time than harass local folk.
TOTAL WASTE OF TAXPAYER MONEY TO POLICE THIS
Been fishing these shores for 30 years and never had a problem with the tourists. Absolute rubbish proposal.
People have been fishing here forever. Never seen any obstruction. Just leave us be.

My kids love watching the fishermen. Leave them alone it is part of what makes our town what it is.
