Within the Swansea university Medical School (previously college of Medicine) the postgraduate researchers have no place to call their own where they can escape their offices/lab to have a break, eat lunch and socialise with their fellow students.
The graduate entry medicine (GEM) students have their own common room as well as the Postgraduate Taught students, so we believe that it is only fair for the Postgraduate Research students to have their own space in IL1 or IL2 as this is where most (if not all) of us work.
We believe that the best way to show to the college that this space is wanted is to start this petition for you to sign and share to every other student who feels the same!
So if you think we should have our own common room please sign and share this petition.

The emails I keep receiving from the department feel like they are just waiting for me to get tired and walk away. I am exhausted from the constant back and forth but I am not dropping this until we have a real place to sit down. We deserve better than being treated like we do not exist.

Seeing this level of support confirms that I am not the only one feeling burnt out by the lack of a proper space to recharge. It has been a long grind to get this much attention but seeing you all engage gives me the energy to keep pushing for a room of our own.

When working late, and by late I mean around midnight which is common for research postgraduates, it is good to have a place to relax properly on a comfy, quiet area. This not only aids productivity during the late night experiment, but helps reduce the fatigue in the following day.
As a PG student I think we should have a common room/area for us all to meet. It would build a greater sense of Community :)
WE NEED OWN COMMON ROOM
Bit late for third years and final years but better late then never. Question now is: Where will it be?
As someone who belongs to two schoools within the uni I think this would definately make me feel more included etc.

As a part-time PhD scholar I would definitely support the call to provide a communal area to meet other fellow researchers and feel part of the wider School community.
