Currently the SFU Graduate Student Society (GSS) operates out of the SFU Burnaby campus. However, approximately 25% of our membership attends school at other SFU campuses.
In the GSS’s Strategic Plan, our membership has prioritized advocating for equitable access to University and GSS services for graduate students studying at SFU Vancouver and SFU Surrey. Given the high number of grad students studying at, or near, the SFU Harbour Centre Campus, the GSS is particularly interested in acquiring office and/or lounge space, at the SFU Vancouver Harbour Centre campus. This space would be used by all of the SFU GSS membership, the GSS staff and elected student leaders, as well as the Vancouver Grad Student Committee (VGSC). Having dedicated graduate student space is essential for fostering a sense of community and campus engagement.

The momentum is undeniable. Harbour Centre graduate students deserve this space.

its long overdue. vancouver campus gets zero love from the gss.
HARD AGREE. downtown students are basically ghosts to the admin and it needs to change.
Studying at harbour centre is so isolating. Having a lounge would actually make me feel like part of the school.
SFU totes its various campuses in all of its recruitment materials, but has failed to ensure these campuses are productive and engaging academic spaces for graduate students. Its time to reverse that trend. SFU can start by working with the GSS to find a reasonable and permanent space for graduate students at the Vancouver Campus.
It's a very different experience going to grad school at the Vancouver campus and I often feel left out of the grad activities and community that is so 'alive' at the Burnaby campus. A dedicated space for grad students at the Vancouver campus would provide all SFU grad students with equal opportunities for connecting with one another and building important networks.

Being downtown feels like being ignored by the main campus. We need a spot to actually meet up during the day.
