I'm done hearing about airline pilots deliberately crashing their planes and killing hundreds of people. It's time all airlines regularly polygraph pilots and prospective pilots to see if they have suicidal tendencies, societal resentments, holy war sympathies, or any other psychological indicators that would point to murder-suicide by aircraft.

Join me in demanding better protection from the airlines!

Based on my internet research (and we all know the internet is always right), while there are 625,000 "pilots" in the U.S., there are far fewer that actually fly for the commercial airlines. For example, Delta and American, the two largest airlines in North America, with 50% of the market share, employ about 24,000 pilots (collectively). If we extrapolate that to 100% of the market, there would be less than 50,000 active airline pilots. Assuming the immense buying power of the airlines (or TSA) would only able to get the polygraph costs to $200/session and 2 sessions per year, the cost of 100,000 polygraphs per year would be $20 million per year. The list price of a new Airbus A320 (the model of the plane deliberately crashed in France) is about $95 million, or four times that cost. This doesn't even take into consideration the cost of the search, recovery and post-crash analysis efforts. MH370's search costs (another plane that appears to have been deliberately crashed) are unknown at this point, but they were expected to eclipse the $160 million spent on Air France 447. Looking at this from a consumer's financial standpoint: $20 million per year divided by 107 million enplaned passengers per year comes to less than $0.19 per ticket. Of course, none of this accounts for the cost of human lives, which of course, are priceless.
