Coach Marla Grier has had a significant positive impact on the lives of students and athletes in South Sioux City for decades. Her recent and sudden dismissal from her coaching position has left several community members hurt and bewildered. Co-workers, friends, students and parents find it hard to believe that a woman who means so much to our community could have done something to merit this dismissal. In speaking with her, fellow coaches still do not understand the reason behind the decision. Therefore, as co-workers, friends, students, and parents, we ask that the South Sioux City Board of Education please review this decision and speak on its merit. Thank you for your consideration regarding a person who is family to us. We are South Sioux City!

Thank you to the school district for releasing additional information regarding their decision. The events of 5-17-14 placed everyone in critical decision-making positions ranging from the activities director to the director of student services, the driver of the bus and all other adults involved including Coach Grier. Those who have called for a consideration of reinstatement have discussed the information released this week and will share their input with the board of directors.
Personally I think that would be too outrageous to be true. However, rumors such as this are an example of what happens when the public does not have the information it seeks. When a decision is made that confuses everyone, rumors start to surface - damaging the reputation of all parties involved. This is why we seek as much information as possible about the decision made and the reasons behind it.
Yes, the counter on the public page has been shaky since the beginning but in administrative view, it is reliable in that reports can be viewed and downloaded in real time noting each petitioner's name and comment. And the counter there does update in real time. We are at 191 as of 5/23, 11:25pm central

With the bogus and totally unjustified firing of Marla Grier, the SSC soccer coach, I predict the new coach will be the son of the current Superintendent of Schools who is a soccer player currently in need of a job. Nepotism in the works?
