Playgrounds play an essential role in the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being of children from early childhood onward. It is a natural tool for children to develop resiliency as they learn to cooperate, overcome challenges, and negotiate with others. Play also allows children to be creative. It even provides a platform to build a healthy parent-child relationship.
The amount of time children spend outdoors has rapidly decreased in the last ten years and it is becoming increasingly difficult to ensure that children of all ages are getting adequate exercise.
As a parent I feel that it is important that my child has a place to play outside in a safe and fun playground in his own neighborhood.
The nearest playground is at Boston Common and not only is it a 20 min walk, it also gets very crowded.
It is my hope that together, as Leather District neighbors, we can send this petition to the city of Boston, and put together a plan to build a playground right here in our neighborhood. I wish I had the talent and skill to truly express how much this playground would mean to the children of our district, and give it the family friendly environment from which we all could benefit. At least, I hope I get the dialogue started.
Thank you so much for lending your ear and your anticipated support...and on behalf of all the Leather District children: thank you!
Now let's get out there and play!!
The city officials continue to ignore our basic need for a local playground while they prioritize luxury developments. I am spending my time calling their offices to demand they acknowledge that children live in this neighborhood too. We are not going away until they provide a safe space for our families.

We need this! The Leather District is becoming more family friendly every year but the city is lagging behind. Let's get it done.

it is crazy that there is literally zero space for kids to run around here. my toddler is bored out of his mind and the walk to the common is way too far.
