On behalf of students at the University of Pittsburgh and residents of the city, we ask the University of Pittsburgh administration to transfer a portion of the University's endowment from large banks to local banks here in Pittsburgh. In a time of economic hardship, Pitt should be a leader in developing its community. Transferring cash from the endowment into local financial institutions will have a positive impact on the local economy and provide financial resources for people and communities that are commonly underserved. Local banks are committed to Pittsburgh. Their investment practices are less risky than big banks and still offer a competitive rate of return on investment. We ask the University administration to directly invest in its extended campus now.
