We want to change the Pit Bull laws in Burnaby
The current "vicious" dog laws
(a) a dog that without provocation has bitten or caused injury to a human being or to a domestic animal, but does not include a dog that has bitten or injured a trespasser, and
(b) a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, an American Pit Bull Terrier and any dog generally recognized as a pit bull or pit bull terrier and includes a dog of mixed breed with predominant pit bull or pit bull terrier characteristics
From birth, "Bully" Breeds are labelled as vicious and forced to be muzzled in public regardless of behaviour.
The penalties
- Fines for Unmuzzled dogs in Burnaby will be $200
- Vicious Dogs will also be impounded for a longer time
- Owners face a $500 fine for their first "incident" with animal control

I boycott your city as much as humanly possible and will continue until this type of BSL is repealed.
My son's Pitt bull is the sweetest dog we have ever had and is being pushed for being a living dog just because of her breed

Stop breed banning. Stop breed bullying. Anyone who knows pit bull types knows they're big babies! Less likely to bite you than smaller dogs. Your ignorance is disgraceful.

There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. Just because an animal had been bred to be defensive/aggressive does not mean they will be. Proper training and socialization are all that are required to keep these dogs on the right path, and it's the same for any breed. I'm far more likely to have a Poodle get aggressive with me for no reason than a Pit Bull. If these dogs keep being discriminated against then there is no chance for them to be socialized properly. If a dog is told it is bad from birth then it will do what it is told and be bad. It's not hard to socialize an animal properly, but it requires trust from other dog owners and that won't happen if everyone thinks their dog is going to be attacked because the breed is "dangerous". End the stigma!
