To fight the deed not the breed, we are standing up against the harsh restrictions on pit bull standards. We will agree to have our animals altered (spayed and neutered), on leash at all times with exception of a gated yard, and to pay special attention to our gentle giants and those around them. It is deplorable to see such harsh restrictions for the animals when it is clearly the owner and trainer of the animal that ends in horrible attacks. Punish the owner not the rest of us who are good, loving owners. Our dogs haven't caused any harm to anyone so why punish us? Why punish our dogs?
What we will agree to:
1) altered animals unless proper legal paperwork filed to be a licensed breeder
2) leashed in public areas with the exception of a fenced yard
3) proper care is provided for the animal to remain healthy
4) sign posted on outdoor gate/ household to make it known there is a pit bull present simply to appeal to the general public's concerns
Our pit bull currently has to reside in Northern Kansas City because we cannot afford the insurance. She is the most loving, sweet creature on the planet. Should she be torn away from her family because a less caring human being taught their animal to fight? Well we say no, and we are exercising our right to speak up loud and proud to abolish this senseless poorly thought out law. If we can make it legal in Independence again, we will push the fight to other cities to punish the owner for their dogs behavior.
When a child is bad at school, you look to the parents and the same should be happening here. I hope you all agree with us and say "stop punishing my dog" and educate the public!
I really thought this might just be a small thing I wrote in frustration but seeing how many people feel the exact same way is honestly overwhelming. It makes me want to cry thinking about all the sweet dogs currently forced out of their homes because of these rules. We have real momentum now so let's keep going until there is nowhere left for this policy to hide.

TOTAL BS. Look at the owner not the dog. My neighbor has a lab that is more aggressive than my pitty. Fix the system already.

My pit is the biggest baby ever. She sleeps with my kids every night. This law is so outdated and unfair to responsible owners like us.
