We all know that Circus is going to be the theme of this years prom and from what I've heard, not many people like that idea. In the summer, the class presidency asked us for theme suggestions, but they didn't take any of them. It's sort of insulting that our input would be completely disregarded like that. This prom is for ALL of us, so we should ALL try harder to reach some kind of compromise.

Most people agree that Circus is a childish theme and we want a more formal prom. The girls don't want to get all dressed up and then take pictures next to a clown and a lion. I have seen the Circus decorations from the Eventscapes people and they do look okay at the Coconut Grove but that's because that place has really high ceilings. Our venue doesn't and I don't think people have taken that into consideration. There's another picture of some of the same decorations from the Coconut Grove but it's at a different venue (one with lower ceilings like ours) and it looks pretty much like a kid's birthday party. This is prom, not a birthday party.

There are rumors that the theme is "Cirque du Soleil".

Despite the popular belief that French words make everything classier, a cirque is still just a circus and not any less unappetizing. When Eventscapes made the "Cirque De L'amour" theme for another school, they used normal circus decorations.

Everyone should know that this isn't an insult to whoever picked the circus theme. I mean absolutely no disrespect to them and I know they've been working hard. The problem is that they're not letting us help. It's just not fair that the majority of the class got no say in OUR prom theme. If we have to pay for something, we should at least have a choice in what we're paying for.

Here are some suggestions from the summer that were ignored.

-Hollywood
-Red Carpet

-MTV VMA

-Spaceships

-Persian Nights

-All Around the World

-Rio

-Rococo/Marie Antoinette

-1990s

and then that super long list that I'm not going to copy because I want to avoid overkill.

Some other suggestions I've heard in the halls were...

-Black & White

-50s

-Under the Sea

-Fairy Tale

-Roaring 20s/Great Gatsby

PLEASE NO ONE BE INSULTED BY THIS. I DON'T MEAN TO HURT ANYONE'S FEELINGS.

Updates

March 21, 2013

The class presidency is currently ignoring our messages about the venue constraints and the maturity level of the theme. Post the link to this petition on your Facebook wall today and tag your class representatives to force a public conversation. We need to keep pressure on them until they agree to a formal meeting.

March 21, 2013

The administration can no longer ignore the fact that the student body wants a formal theme instead of this circus idea. Post this link on your Facebook wall right now and send a direct text to three classmates to keep the pressure on. We need to force a meeting with the committee by emailing your student rep today.
