A petition opposing the ALDI/134 apartment building project.
Whereas the Chanhassen City Council has approved a plan to construct an Aldi grocery store and 134 unit apartment project located adjacent to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater, and
Whereas the developer of this project, United Properties owned by the Pohlad family has stated that the project is marginal without being subsidized by the taxpayers of Chanhassen, and
Whereas Chanhassen tax payers will be liable for $1.3 million dollars from a TIF, $750,000 from the Met Council and $60,000 from Carver county, and
Whereas this project cannot proceed without this subsidy from the Chanhassen taxpayers, and
Whereas with the huge financial assets of the Pohlad family, asking the taxpayers of Chanhassen to subsidize this project is shameful, and
Whereas to be economically viable without a Chanhassen taxpayer subsidy, the project should be scaled back to make it sustainable without taxing the citizens of Chanhassen,
Now therefore, we, the undersigned citizens of Chanhassen demand that the Chanhassen City Council refuse and reject any funding of this project by the taxpayers of Chanhassen.

I am against this project, especially not funding the Polahds with tax dollars. We do not need another grocery store in town. The apartment is way too big. It will ruin downtown. We have lived in Chan for 37 years.
I oppose of this project due to the TIF that will be needed to move it forward. Chanhassen residents should not have to foot the bill for a project that we don't need or want. Another grocery store is certainly not needed in Chanhassen
Keep charm - Excelsior is expanding, but doing it in a way to keep it's small town feel. Also, figure out parking, traffic, and school situation before adding this amount of people to an already congested area.
Thoughtful development in Chanhassen is a good thing, but this proposed apartment building, at six stories high, is simply not a good fit for Chanhassen, or in keeping with the small-town feel which is the reason so many people moved here to begin with.
I've just bought my first home in Chanhassen a little over a year ago. I moved out here because of the small town feel. A 6 story apartment and a 5th grocery store are a waste of space and tax money. My wife and I have no interest in changing the community like this.
This project should not be built!!! WE DO NOT NEED A 5TH GROCERY STORE IN TOWN or a huge apartment building on our main street. It would be nice to see the dinner theater updated and expanded with complementary businesses and nice sit down restaurants. No More Fast Food Places! The residents that live in Chanhassen want to keep that small town feel & look, NOT some big ugly GROCERY STORE and Apartment building! Make Chanhassen a destination city to live, visit all we have to offer, the Dinner Theater , Paisley Park, our trails ,lakes and parks! It's a great place to live let's keep it that way! The city's elected officials need to listen to people that live here & who put them in office! NO TO THIS PROJECT!!!
I agree- aldi does not belong in Chanhassen. Maybe Chaska but not Chan.

No thanks. If a developer wants to build something, they can fund the effort without my money. And an Aldi? That doesn't even make sense with all of the grocery options in a 1 mile radius.
