Labour-controlled Newcastle Borough Council has announced that it intends to sell of this and other public green spaces in Newcastle in order to plug a hole in its finances. The Council has indicated that this green space will be considered for disposal for a housing development.
Local campaigners and activists, Tony Cox and Trevor Johnson, believe it should be preserved as a public green space, not turned into a housing estate.
