We believe the university should provide fashion and studio art students with the opportunity to study abroad in the spring, as well as the fall. The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts prides itself on interdisciplinary learning, and much of the coursework is shared between students of art, architecture, fashion, and design. The nature of art practices today is largely collaborative, and we believe that the opportunity to study abroad with our peers in various fields would be extremely beneficial to our development and remain true to the Sam Fox mission. With a great but limited opportunity to only study abroad in one program during one semester, we feel more limited than any of our peers in other schools throughout Washington University in St. Louis. If a limited number of students attends the fall program and these students work in different media, we believe providing ample faculty support across different fields could prove problematic; we believe offering a spring program would augment enrollment in the fashion and studio art programs. We appreciate the receptiveness of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, and we hope they will listen to our voiced concerns.

The silence from the administration is becoming difficult to ignore but I am spending my evenings drafting formal requests for a meeting to discuss these curriculum gaps. It is exhausting to keep pushing when there is no response yet I know our demand for a spring option for fashion and studio art students is reasonable and necessary.

Reaching this point has been a long and draining climb. Seeing so many of you connect with this mission gives me the energy to keep pushing despite the silence from the administration.

sam fox students pay as much as everyone else to go to this school and should have the option to go where they want to as long as they are able to set up their own plan.

I think the art students should have the choice of which semester to study abroad.

Let this be an opportunity for the University to make good on its promises of flexibility and genuine concern for the interests and needs of its students.

its honestly really unfair that we only get one semester option while everyone else gets so much more flexibility. this would be a huge help for my degree plan.

I am an architecture major and fine art minor planning to study in florence in spring. Adding studio art in spring will make it much easier to fulfill my minor requirement.

A lot of the studio art, fashion and architecture students have classes together and do well in concordance with each other. I believe it would help the program and be a compatible combination of the three fields.
