Petition to extend the 2020 Criminology dissertation deadline in the light of the current Corona crisis.
Due to the current climate of panic and uncertainty regarding Corona Virus, L6 Criminology students are requesting to extend the dissertation deadline due to the inability to give full attention and concentration to their academics in the final week of writing.
Students might be struggling:
Personally with the virus, self isolating or distancing,
Have anxieties regarding vulnerable family members and friends,
A lack of equipment (books and technology) at home to complete their dissertation but be fearful of attending the library,
Generalised worry about the future, for example, finances and the job market.

I have formally submitted our request for a deadline extension to the department head. We are currently waiting for a scheduled meeting time to discuss these specific student concerns with the faculty board.

The volume of support has reached a level that the department can no longer ignore. I am currently finalizing a formal letter to the faculty board to demand an immediate deadline extension.

I usually spend days in the library and the access to a desktop computer and books makes life easier, work seems more difficult to complete with just my laptop at home with less access to resources and computers!
I don't have access to a computer at home, therefore, I'm having to travel to and from uni on the metro and spending all day in the library.
I am in a predicament where I don’t have an internet at home and having to still go on campus to complete work
Personally, my mental health is declining massively due to the outbreak and others may feel the same, I feel that I can’t put the right amount of attention into my dissertation when I am at risk of losing my job due to closures and possible vulnerable family members being infected with Covid-19.
corona virus is affecting all of us, including those doing dissertations. our mental health is declining, an extension would help.

I have bad asthma so I actually shouldn't be going to the library or using public transport to get there (I have not been in for the past 3 weeks) and therefore cant access any of the books that are not online. The virus has added a lot of extra stress and I have not been able to concentrate on doing my uni work because of this.
