PETITION TO EKURHULENI MUNICIPALITY: IMMEDIATE ACTION ON POWER OUTAGE IN SKY CITY
As of today, it has been five days since the substation was damaged—leaving Sky City and surrounding areas without electricity.
Despite our ongoing plight, the City of Ekurhuleni has remained largely silent, offering no tangible updates since their last vague communication on 4 July 2025, where they merely stated that an investigation was underway. Since then, there has been no report, no plan, and no progress.
We cannot continue to sit in darkness and silence.
During our previous march, we made it clear that a dedicated substation for Sky City was critical due to the ongoing strain on the Tsietsi Substation. That warning has now become our lived reality.
We are now facing:
- Financial losses from spoiled groceries.
- Compromised medical needs for residents requiring cold-stored medication.
- Escalating costs for daily meals and takeaways.
- Increased safety risks due to unlit streets and non-functioning security systems.
We can no longer wait. The investigation has cost us 5 days already, and if we don’t act, it could be another 5 before the city takes any meaningful action.

We need to removed from palm ridge substation because it’s overloaded with many other residences piping up and RDP houses it cannot accommodate all of us. We bought in Skycity and are classified at Watervaalspruit not Palmridge and we should be treated like so.
It has been a tough week! Working from home is a challenge when we have power outage. Had to work from restaurants and had to buy food in the process as I was using their electricity. It's been frustrating, our area is very dark.
This outage happened 5 days ago and there has been no work done. We can't be treated like we are non-paying customers. Yes when we o get Ekurhuleni they don't hesitate to switch us off. We are now exposed to more crime.,Hijackings have already started
We can tolerate this in area we are really struggling to survive here my groceries is damaged in the refrigerator, we are not safe on the streets, we pay R20 to charge our cellphones. We want an Immediate action taken in fixing this problem.
We are really struggling as it is winter months.We have incurred unexpected expenses of food,lighting and heating our homes.Soon our children will be going back to school,how are we to survive this ordeal.We as electricity paying citizens need your urgent intervention.
Extension 32 and 33 skycity, the Bronx and Millano dedicated electricity substation
Good day As resident of Sky city at extention 33, we're experiencing electricity outrage. We stayed all most 2 weeks without electricity and it's costing us big time because we have to spend even more unexpectedly. Can you please sort out this problem by installing our own substation as Sky City residents only. We're can't be suffering like this whereas we're paying a lot. There's no way you can connect people who buy electricity with those that are not buying, it doesn't make sense at all Lastly can you please remove Sky city extention 32 and 33 from Germiston to Alberton because when ever we laid complain under Germiston we don't be taken serious it's like we're non paying residents

We want our own substation, you guys charge us ridiculous amount with no matching service. We don’t even know our who to report to. One we owe a looney 100 bucks you block our meter but can’t keep the services running. If it’s not issues with the bins it’s electricity.
