The Town of Baie Verte has proposed the automatic collection of garbage. It claims that such garbage collection would be more efficient, cleaner, safer, smarter and would eliminate the need for garbage boxes. Wheeled carts will be delivered to each household, with an annual fee of $50.00 for the first two years and $20.00 for each year there after.

We, the undersigned, are opposed to this venture for the following reasons:

1) Seniors would have great difficulty handling these garbage carts, pushing them up to the roadside, especially if living where there is a steep incline/decline in your driveway. Our winter snow conditions would make this task next to impossible for many.

2) We would be liable for misplaced or damaged carts; thus creating "another" added expense to the taxpayers.

3) We feel that there should have been discussion/consultation from all members of the town, not just members of the Town Council.

4) Imposing an extra expense to taxpayers is uncalled for, an extra expense that many residents cannot afford.

5) Our town does not have curbs or sidewalks to accommodate such carts.
