The city of Lorain made a bold move to start billing citizens on behalf of Republic Services for trash collection.  This will allow the city to put liens on property owners homes and assess penalties and fees about the normal trash collection.  In addition, quarterly billing will be replaced with monthly billing and the fees will be added to water and sewer bills.  By signing this petition you agree you do not want the city of Lorain collecting your trash bill,  but leave Republic Services in charge of billing you.  This will keep your property safe from potential liens and penalties.  The city has added a middle man to your garbage service in order to fine citizens.  This is purely a new revenue stream for the city.  Today if a rental property has trash on the tree lawn, the city can contract Republic Services to do a pick up and they can pass the cost on to the homeowner.  They choose not to do it.  This control will be a disaster for Lorain citizens.
