The Petition of the undersigned residents
HUMBLY SHEWETH
WHEREAS Newfoundland Industrial Composting Ltd. is proposing to establish an indoor industrial composting facility to process a variety of organic waste (animal carcasses and fish offal) from commercial and industrial sources in Newfoundland, to produce a marketable organic fertilizer;
WHEREAS this undertaking will be located on Route 202, approximately five kilometres from the Trans-Canada Highway which is the boundary of Chapel Arm;
WHEREAS the proposed location is approximately 600 m from the old rail bed which is a popular location for camping, recreational hunting and recreational fishing, and there are cabin owners, on granted land, at the crossing of the old rail bed and Route 202;
WHEREAS there is concern that odour, and the increase of flies, rodents and predatory animals will be a serious problem for all residents and will seriously affect quality of life and impede future growth and development of the community;
WHEREAS Route 202 is a narrow and high-trafficked road, and an increase in truck traffic increases the risk of a serious motor vehicle accident.
WHEREUPON the undersigned, your Petitioners, humbly pray and call upon the House of Assembly to urge Government to deny access to the proposed location for Newfoundland Industrial Composting Ltd. on Route 202.

This business will lower property values in the surrounding towns. It will harm the local environment as runoff will make it into the water table. The stench will make local recreational spots like the old track almost unusable. It will attract rodents and bugs.
Terrible location as it is close to a community and would destroy natural teouting area and tourism in the area. Any composting/ farming area should be well outside of any community or tourist area.
I grew up in Chapel Arm and would hate to see the adverse effect it have on residents there. The phosphorus in the air from ERCO years ago did enough damage. One only has to drive by the current farm in Cavendish to get an idea. The smell there is bad enough, this facility would be much worse.
Ii is needed in the province but not in this area. Vale cut Long Harbour off from a huge recreational/hunting area and there is limited natural areas around the town with easy access.
From 1968 to 1989 we were forced to breath in the disgusting smell of a phosphorus plant and now 30 years later we're being told that, low and behold, we are once again being targeted with what promises to be even more offensive. Thanks, but no thanks!
Totally against this project within miles of our cabin . It just doesn’t be long near anywhere where people live

The Newfoundland govt needs to allot an area where it is not populated with people, and wildlife such as a barren rocky area that can been zoned for such recycled and dump areas as to not disturb communities and wildlife. By not doing so the goverment is being negligent.
