SUMMARY OF PETITION:

“This petition calls for the immediate reversal of the decision to merge Mae Eanes Middle School with Williamson High School. We ,the parents and citizens of this Historic Maysville Community request that the Mobile County Public School System rescind this decision based upon the failure of the MCPSS to honor a contract to rebuild Mae Eanes Middle School and the failure of the MCPSS to include parents and tax-paying citizens of this community to participate in this decision-making process. Because of these actions, we (the parents) feel betrayed, disrespected and excluded and have been delivered a quantum of disrespect and autocratic practices that insult and diminish human intelligence and that of the Maysville Civic Community. We have been thusly denied the right to decide what is best for our own children and the right to transfer them into schools of our choice.

Based upon the justifications stated above, we, the parents of Mae Eanes Middle School children, and the tax-paying citizens of the Maysville Community, do hereby petition the Mobile County Board of School Commisioners, along with the MCPSS Superintendent, Martha Peek, to reverse the decision to merge these two community schools and honor the following demands:

• Community Town Hall Meeting with the Superintendent, Martha Peek
• A list of stakeholders that were included in making the decision to merge Eanes and Williamson
• A copy of the minutes of that meeting (Both audio and video)
• A 30-day timeline for parents to file transfer paperwork from today’s date, to the school of their choice
• Parents should have a choice in choosing a proficient middle school in which to enroll their children with transportation provided
• RESCIND MERGER ANNOUNCEMENT
• REBUILD MAE EANES MIDDLE SCHOOL TO 21ST CENTURY AND GLOBALSTANDARDS AND READMIT ALL NEIGHBORHOOD STUDENTS AFTER SCHOOL IS REBUILT
