Please sign your name if you would support flex learning days (days where your child does homework at home on chrombook or iPads on snow days) for our district. Please only sign if you have a child who attends our district and if you’d have internet access for your child at home on days school was cancelled.
I AM TALKING TO PLENTY OF FAMILIES WHO ARE TIRED OF LOSING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME EVERY SINGLE TIME WE GET A WINTER STORM!! WE ARE GETTING READY TO PRESENT THIS DIRECTLY TO THE SCHOOL BOARD SOON AND YOUR SUPPORT IS GIVING US SO MUCH MOMENTUM!! KEEP THE ENERGY UP BECAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY THE CHANGE OUR KIDS NEED!!

This would be so helpful for our family. Kids fall behind so fast when we have all these late starts and snow days in a row.

Thanks for responding Joel! I think there are some real good questions and research that would need to go into implementing this. There are many other districts in the state who use these flex learning days and it would be interesting to see how they go about it and overcome so of the hurdles you mentioned.

Royalton parents: At the start of the 2018-19 school year, the last scheduled day of school was May 31st. Today is our fifth snow day of the school year. Despite the winter school closings, our last student day of the school year is scheduled for May 31st. Students will make up one school day on April 22.
We have discussed this as an option in the future, but there are many things to be considered including:
1) tech access for ALL students,
2) high schools have 7 classes per day. How to schedule that. Very different than an elementary class of 20 students. HS teachers can meet 150+ students per day.
3) how are students accountable for attendance?
4) snow days are unplanned, there is not a way to have a content specific related plan when you don’t know when the day is going to happen.
That said, we have begun discussions about other types of things that could be accomplished with an e-day learning option.
