Please consider signing the petition from Avondale GATE parents who are in support of the Expanded In-Seat Instruction Proposal that Dr. Schwarz presented to the Avondale Board of Education on 3/8/21. The proposed plan would allow students to choose to stay remote or choose to attend school in person 4 days per week (currently they attend 2 days per week), with asynchronous Wednesdays. The proposed plan would begin April 8th.
On 3/15, the board will hear any changes made to the initial proposal and they will be asked to approve the final version of the proposal.

Reaching this level of support is exhausting but it proves that so many of you share this same goal. I am tired of the uncertainty yet seeing this movement grow gives me the resolve to keep pushing forward.

I've seen a change in my daughter's excitement in sharing/participating in class discussions. She was so enthusiastic but now just says her thoughts in her work space. This has saddened me beyond belief. She needs to be in it as she says.
Looking for my child to go back earlier than 4/8. All the districts around us are going back 4-5 days by 3/15. Why the delay? The kids had suffered mentally and emotionally and it’s about time to get them back on track before it’s too late. Thank you!

I think we as a society have underestimated the social and emotional effects of remote learning on the elementary student population. We may not know what those effects are for some time, and some effects (like anxiety and depression) can be difficult to measure and track, especially when they go untreated. I believe we have a responsibility to our children to give them the opportunity for more in-person learning. I have two other kids who have been in private school this year. Their social and emotional growth has been amazing to see and I wish that my GATE student could have an opportunity for something similar. My son has been thrilled to be in-seat two days a week. As a third grader, I believe he needs more consistency and a greater amount of time with his teacher and with his classmates. Thank you.
If this is to be passed on to any board members and/or any in the administration level I'd like you to implore the need for increased in seat model. I cannot speak to the other levels of education but only to Gate in which I have one daughter currently attending. As has been the case since almost a year ago, everything we decided these days are a moving target. Are we out of the woods just yet? who knows? We can only take whatever information we have in front of us and make a decision based on information we have currently. As we all know, things can change but currently this target is slowing coming into focus. Everything we do has a mitigated risk, inherently or not inherently, but a risk nonetheless. From what I can see on the outside that the model at Gate seems to offer a chance to weather these risks. The benefits of in person to those attending currently seem to supercede those risks at this current time. One size doesn't fit all and would hope that this is considered in that decision. On a more personal level, the attitude and aptitude of my daughter increased 100 percent when she got to go back in seat. I understand this isn't the case for most but you catch a lot more flies with honey and get better production at home and or at school. This will also allow for any speed bump that may arise to be taken better. Her smile was ear to ear on her first day of school. I'd like to continue this as much as possible until the end of the year......Please?

Thank you so much for protecting our kids not only physically but also mentally. My son seems to have his spark back when he’s in person but it quickly disappears when he’s online at home. This change would be so beneficial for him and so many others.
