Subject: Formal Objection to Proposed Modifications of Badminton Court Booking Policy

We, the undersigned residents of Crescent Bay, hereby submit this petition to formally express our objections to the recent changes proposed by the Interim Apex Committee regarding the badminton court booking slots. We contend that these modifications, which impose significant limitations on the number of booking slots allocated to each household, are detrimental to the community's engagement and the effective utilization of this essential amenity.

Grounds for Objection:

Inequitable Access: The new policy disproportionately favours occasional players while severely restricting access for regular players. Specifically, the limitations imposed allow regular players to book courts for no more than 10 days per month, each session limited to a mere 30 minutes. Such restrictions undermine the fundamental principle of equitable access for all residents.

Erosion of Community Engagement: Badminton serves as a vital activity within our society, promoting health, wellness, and social interaction. By imposing these restrictions, the Interim Apex Committee risks diminishing the sense of community fostered through regular participation and interaction among neighbours.

Potential Underutilization of Facilities: The proposed limitations may lead to the underutilization of the badminton courts, which could result in dissatisfaction and frustration among residents who rely on these facilities for physical activity and social engagement.

Lack of Transparency and Rationale: The reasoning behind these significant changes has not been adequately communicated to the residents. Transparency in the decision-making process is essential to maintain trust and confidence within our community. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that such drastic measures are not commonly employed in other societies facing similar demands for high-usage amenities.

Request for Reconsideration:

In light of the aforementioned concerns, we respectfully request that the Interim Apex Committee reconsider these changes. We advocate for a more balanced and gradual approach to the moderation of court usage, rather than the immediate and restrictive measures currently proposed.

Proposed Alternatives for Consideration:

Extended Availability: We propose that the badminton courts be made available for booking on a 24/7 basis. This adjustment would enhance access for players wishing to utilize the courts during late hours or in the wee hours, and can be implemented with minimal effort, given that the clubhouse is staffed with security personnel at all times.

Revised Booking Limitations: We suggest that the maximum booking duration per slot be limited to one hour for either court. Currently, residents can book one hour slot each on both the courts. This change would facilitate a greater number of available time slots for residents.

Implementation of No-Show Penalties: We recommend the enforcement of penalties for no-shows, which could include temporary suspension from the booking system for the remainder of the month. This policy would promote accountability and reduce wasted booking opportunities.

Re-evaluation of 30-Minute Slot Restrictions: We assert that the proposed limitation of five 30-minute slots per court is excessively restrictive for regular players. Individuals seeking to engage in badminton for fitness or recreation should not be constrained to play for a mere 10 days in a month.

We believe that through constructive dialogue and collaboration, a mutually beneficial solution can be achieved for the entire community. We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to your timely response.

Respectfully submitted.
