In the recent weeks it has been found that some students are using their electronic devices during class time for non-learning based activities. As a response to this, the team responsible for learning at TAFE Queensland, specifically the Bachelor of Dental Prosthetics program have decided that it is best if a total ban on all electronic devices is put in place. This is designed to assist our learning and promote more appropriate use of class time.

This proposed ban will include ALL electronic devices; ipads, laptops, tablets and mobile phones.

As a student I use my electronic devices during class for my learning and find it much easier to stay engaged throughout the long lecture periods with the lecture loaded up in front of me as I can follow along at my own pace. I strongly disagree with the proposed ban and would like to be able to use my electronic devices during class to assist with my learning. For this reason I have created this petition for the students to be able to show their support for the use of electronic devices during class times.

It is vital that you all show your support for this cause if you would also like to continue to use your electronic devices during class time. We need the support and involvement of each student from all cohorts.

The only way we can overturn this ban is with the involvement of all of you. Please take some time to fill out this petition and comment on ways you have used your electronic devices during class time to assist your learning and why YOU think we should be allowed to use electronic devices during class time.

Don't forget to make sure that all of your friends show their support if you too feel strongly about this topic.

As students/adults I feel that it is our right to use electronic devices for learning purposes during lectures. I understand the ban of use during clinic/lab sessions, but I do not think it is fair on us as students to stop us from learning in our own ways. This seems like a very strange ban for higher education, as we all pay quite a lot of money to be where we are. Electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptops, and iPads all help in us in different ways including viewing lecture slides, taking notes, accessing E-books, etc.

I use my laptop during class to follow the PowerPoint slides and take notes to correspond with these slides. We are adults undergoing tertiary education, if some students want to use their electronic devices for other reasons they are the only ones who will suffer. Students using these devices for educational purposes should not be punished for the actions of others.

All of my notes are taken on my phone and laptop. The entire way that i arrange my time and organize my life is on my phone and tablet.

Really dissatisfied in this new "policy." We as students in a learning environment rely on our devices to follow along with lectures, take notes, look up definitions and to counteract learning barriers. I strongly feel we as bachelor students will be severely disadvantaged until this issue is resolved.

I understand that not all students are entirely lecture focused while in class, but this is an adult learning environment - if they aren't being a distraction to the rest of the class I see no issue. TAFE Queensland boasts about their education support staff and open styles of teaching and learning, yet they have been very quick to remove access to my own style of learning. Electronics are e s s e n t i a l to my education.

I believe we should be able to use our electric devices as I use mine as a notepad.

I strongly disagree with this. I use my laptop to learn and to looking up definitions and pictures whilst the lectures are on so I can better understand the topic.
