Clayton Peg Leg Bates was born in Fountain inn South Carolina in 1907. At the age of 12 he lost his leg in a cotton gin accident, Peg as his friends call him taught him self how to dance with a wooden leg his uncle Witt made for him. Mr. Bates owned and operated the Peg Leg Bates country club in Kerhonkson N.Y. He converted the resort in later years to a summer camp for inner city kids, Mr.Bates passed away at the age of 91 on his way to church. It is our commitment to Mr. Bates and his legacy to continue the work he started. Please sign our petition and help keep his memory and work alive Thank you.

After Peg Leg Mr. Bates moved out of his house at the resort, I moved into it to begin renovations of the entire facility. A lot of work and great memories! But the situation there is in limbo currently?

I used to go to those dances back in the day and it was always the highlight of my summer. That man was a local legend and he deserves to be remembered properly instead of letting the place rot away.
