As traffic and distracted driving increases in and around Malden, there are a number of street and pedestrian safety issues that the undersigned Malden residents would like to be addressed in the immediate area surrounding MVRCS and Lebanon St.

Repainting the school image on the street

Repaint the crosswalks that are faded

Install pedestrian crossing signs on Lebanon St at crosswalk leading to MVRCS (near Franny's)

Speed limit signs as needed within the current school zone.

Thank you for your consideration,

Kindly,

Malden residents

Updates

November 10, 2018

The volume of support has secured a meeting with the local Department of Public Works to review our specific requests for road improvements. I am currently finalizing the list of faded crosswalks and sign requirements to present during our discussion.

What would also be great is making Laurel, Granite and Jacob streets one way during school travel hours. Also a four way stop light at Jacob and Granite by Trafton park. These are complex ideas since they must appeal to the residents, and the fire department. But they offer greater safety than just crossing lines.

These are definitely changes that need to happen. I drop my high schooler off at the corner of Jacob street and there needs to be a school crossing sign somewhere on those corners. Many cars drive fast around Trafton Park and it needs to be addressed.

If it also be safer if there are crossing guards when kids are crossing in front of the gasoline station at Lebanon Street

Please reinforce speed limit. I am jealous of our neighbor city Melrose as resident really respect streets speed limits.

This seems like very reasonable changes that the Mayor of Malden can address. Especially considering the recent tragedies
