The cities of Fishers, IN and Noblesville, IN are planning to replace the deteriorating and non-working rails of the Nickel Plate Road rail line from Noblesville through Fishers, IN and replace them with a walking and biking trail.
YOUR SIGNATURE AND SUPPORT COULD HELP TO PROMPT THIS WALKING AND BIKING TRAIL.
Since the 1990's, the Indiana Transportation Museum (ITM) has been operating a very limited variety of excursions and infrequent events along 34 miles of the Nickel Plate Road. Presently, the Nickel Plate Road rail line is not allowed to run due to safety issues. When previously operational, the Nickel Plate Road rail line was primarily UNUSED. The Nickel Plate Road rail ran a State Fair Train (17 days / year), Polar Bear Express (8 days / year), and a limited number of other excursion trains along this line. Presently, the Indiana Transportation Museum (ITM) is in default of their lease and the ITM is under investigation for mismanagement of funds and serious chemical leaks.
The "rails to trails" conversion which would remove the entire rail line from Noblesville through Fishers. This removal would eliminate the deteriorated rails and replace them with a multi-use walk/bike pathway which can be used year round.

This trail will increase property values and increase economic development just like the Monon has done for Carmel. Additionally, it provides a safe fitness resource away from cars available to all to help combat obesity!
This trail would be a game changer for the town! As a resident of Sunblest homes, I would love to have this trail go through the downtown area. It would make crossing 116 so much easier, and running/walking more enjoyable as well.
Although Fishers has many trails, most of them are not long. We need trails longer than 10 miles. I personally use the Monon Trail to train for mararthons because of the long length of the trail.
I would love a trail, but imagine the cost of this project. Imagine how expensive it would be to remove the tracks, pave the path, and cut back all of the plants. Not to mention that the overgrown trees and bushes are home to thousands of animals. There is a lot to take into consideration.
A multi purpose trail provides an amenity to ALL Fishers residents. It promotes physical fitness, a provides a conduit from residential to commercial for those who don't or who choose not to drive, and provides the ability to reduce traffic congestion at every street that crosses the current tracks.
Would love to have the trail extended all the way to fall creek pkwy trail by the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

As someone that doesn't have access to contiguous walking paths outside of my Princeton Woods community, I'm in favor of this.
