February 28, 2012 Saul Frances, Parking Director City of Miami Beach Parking Department 1755 Meridian Avenue, Suite 100 Miami Beach, Florida 33139 305.673.7505 http://web.miamibeachfl.gov/parking/ RE: Installation of Parking Meters Mr. Frances: We the residents of the block of Pine Tree Drive, Sheridan Avenue , and West 28th Street hereby object to the to the implementation of metered parking along our block without the reasonable availability of residential parking decals at a rate comparable to our fellow citizens living in other residential zones of Miami Beach. • Residents will be subject to an hourly parking fee of $1 per hour from 8am to 6pm. POTENTIALLY $70 PER WEEK! • We also decry the fact that the new metering system, by implementing parallel street parking along Pine Tree Drive and West 28th street will bring NEW CONGESTION to the block by ELIMINATING OVER HALF OF THE PRIVATE PARKING SPACES According to the City of Miami Beach Parking Department they are answering “the call of residents to remove congestion created by non-residents who work in the area and park for free” – however, our block is mainly residential! In answer to the inquiry of what to do about the problems metered parking creates on the block, the Parking Department offered two solutions; the first was to “seek permission to park on private property” in the area (a thing many of us on Pine Tree Drive already have, but will now lose), and the second was to raise public awareness and “start a petition”. We the undersigned ask that the Parking Department cease with any plans to meter the block of West 28th Street and Pine Tree Drive before the Miami Beach City Council holds a public hearing on the issue, in which, the opinion of property owners and residents may be heard and a better solutions found.
