We the parents of Cannon School, like our children/students, feel that the most qualified, deserving candidate for the Athletic Director position, is already performing the job today, Shawn Powell.
Cannon athletics has taken a big step forward under his leadership of the strength and conditioning program. Beyond building the S&C program from scratch his leadership has been palpable in the decisions made across each of the sports coaches from girls to boys, from fall to spring. In addition to his strong pedigree within professional sports and having run a strength and conditioning program that has directly contributed to Cannon’s recent success, Shawn strongly breathes the Cannon Values, has a consistent passion for the student athletes success and maintains a positive attitude.
From a skillset standpoint, we believe he understands how to evaluate, hire and manage strong coaches, what the facilities needs are to support program development, and how to be effective fund-raising with parents where contributions are needed for program development.
We are signing this petition as a statement to the Board and to the Hiring Committee, encouraging you to include Shawn Powell in the candidate pool of finalists for the AD position.

Shawn has proven that he is dedicated to the success of cannon athletics at all levels. He has the professionalism and skill set to be a perfect fit for this position.
Coach Powell is the very best and importantly knows and understands the Cannon community. To me, as both a parent at Cannon and an independent school administrator, it is so blatantly obvious that Coach Powell should be our athletic director. The students snd parents respect him tremendously. He is smart, kind, organized, respectful and has performed this role for the last several months. He is a mentor to most coaches and highly regarded in the greater Charlotte community. We have excellence in Coach Powell- and his credentials on and off the athletic fields are every reason why he deserves this opportunity to be Cannon’s next Director of Athletics; and, Cannon should be honored to have him!
Shawn is invested in the Cannon community and has a great work ethic.
Need to hire within.

Shawn is an outstanding person who understands every aspect of sports. He is a strong intelligent leader. Hope CJ hasn’t excluded Shaw because he is a conservative Christian. You wouldn’t get the truth or straight answer from CJ anyways.
