We the parents of Cannon School, like our children/students, feel that the most qualified, deserving candidate for the Athletic Director position, is already performing the job today, Shawn Powell.

Cannon athletics has taken a big step forward under his leadership of the strength and conditioning program. Beyond building the S&C program from scratch his leadership has been palpable in the decisions made across each of the sports coaches from girls to boys, from fall to spring. In addition to his strong pedigree within professional sports and having run a strength and conditioning program that has directly contributed to Cannon’s recent success, Shawn strongly breathes the Cannon Values, has a consistent passion for the student athletes success and maintains a positive attitude.

From a skillset standpoint, we believe he understands how to evaluate, hire and manage strong coaches, what the facilities needs are to support program development, and how to be effective fund-raising with parents where contributions are needed for program development.

We are signing this petition as a statement to the Board and to the Hiring Committee, encouraging you to include Shawn Powell in the candidate pool of finalists for the AD position.
