We call on Oxford Brookes University to ensure that no sessions are timetabled after 12 noon on Wednesdays.
Students at Brookes University are presented with a number of opportunities to develop new skills and experiences including joining sports teams and societies, taking on volunteering opportunities and attending a diverse range of events.
Additionally, with the rising cost of living, especially housing costs, many students need to work to subsidise their studies.
However, the University requires students to be available from 9am-8pm Monday-Friday when timetabling sessions.
With this in mind, we are calling on the University to ensure that there are no timetabled sessions after 12 noon on Wednesdays to allow all students to engage in extra-curricular sessions.
For my undergrad at Aberystwyth in Wales, they kept Wednesday afternoons free, I joined kayaking and ultimate frisbee society and had some of the best afternoons ever experienced being involved in my sports. It gave me time out from busy studies and gave me a great support network. I'd advocate free Wednesdays whole-heartedly
