I think it's ridiculous to give tickets to cars left overnight in parking lots of bars in Oakville (or anywhere) especially after a Friday or Saturday night. The most problematic place is the parking lot outside the The Kings Arms (323 Church Street, Oakville)
There are many things the city can do to ensure people don't drink and drive to avoid overnight parking tickets. (Ex: bar staff can call in a number to let city know license plates of cars that need to be left overnight in parking lot). Much easier to manage and will reduce stress for the owners, security and staff for the establishment as they can be held responsible for the safety of their customers
I know some will say 'you should've taken an Uber!'. It does happen that you plan on having one drink and end up having more than a breathalyzer would allow behind the wheel.
I think this petition is important and everyone should participate. Hopefully our voices will be loud enough to eliminate this frustrating situation.

I have been hearing from so many of you who feel the same panic when you find a ticket on your windshield the morning after being responsible. I am putting together a proposal to present to the local planning department to show them how simple it would be to implement a plate registry system.

Seeing this grow makes me realize how many people in Oakville have felt the same anxiety about getting home safely without being penalized. It is a relief to know I am not the only one who thinks prioritizing road safety over parking revenue is just common sense.

We should have the option to leave our cars overnight without penalty. It promotes safe drives home at the end of the night. I hate waking up in the morning happy that I took a cab home to not drink and drive. Only to come to my car with 30$ ticket on the windshield. Especially for employees who may want to carpool home after shifts. Why not have the option for free parking on weekends?! Burlington, and Barrie both have free parking on weekends! The citizens love it!
This is an on going problem that prompts patrons to drive in attempt to avoid a $30 ticket. We have to have a security guard in the parking lot every night. At the very least give people until 10am the next morning to retrieve their vehicle. Co Owner @ The King's Arms Oakville
The town should not have to change it's ways for people who are unwilling to act responsibly. Gonna drink to much? Don't bring your car... or have a friend drive it ... or use a service to drive your car for you... or don't drink to much ... this are all very easy adult tasks.

It will avoid a considerable amount of drinking and driving tickets. This just shows its being implemented to take more taxation from the general public.

When the parking enforcement officer loses a loved one due to a drunk driver because the person didn't want to get a ticket for leaving their car at the bar Than they'll know why people signed this petition

If you expect people not to drink and drive, don't punish them for making the right decision and cabbing it..
