We are a group of concerned parents who regularly attend the Multicultural Playgroup at Communicare Cannington. Many of us have participated for multiple terms and witnessed the profound impact of educator Montserrat Garguz on our children’s development.

We were saddened to hear she may no longer be part of the playgroup. Montserrat brings warmth, inclusivity, and cultural awareness to every session. She supports children with English as a second language, sets up thoughtful, age-appropriate activities, and celebrates diverse cultures—such as printing Ramadan cards for Muslim families and recognising Reconciliation Week. These gestures make all families feel seen and respected.

Her ability to connect with children from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds is rare. Through songs, play, and language-inclusive activities, she fosters a sense of belonging and early cultural understanding—turning the playgroup into a truly inclusive space.

While we appreciate all educators, Montserrat’s unique strengths make her especially suited for this role. We respectfully ask that you reconsider the decision regarding her position. Her continued presence is essential to maintaining the welcoming, multicultural environment we deeply value.

My 22 months old baby has been attending this play group with Montserrat since 4 months. He was very shy for first 3 months and he has finally enjoyed being part of this playgroup with her rhymes and interactions. I would like to request if we can still attend this playgroup with her, please. Thank you!

ust now Montserrat is the star of the playgroup. She has a way with children. She knows their individual interests and caters to them accordingly. I love how she has some new activities / experiments planned everyday. My child adores her & really enjoys the rhyme time with her. We really want her to stay as the playgroup wont be the same without her. Thank you.

Montserrat has helped my 2 year old daughter so much with opening up and getting involved with activities such as gardening, sensory play and packing up toys. Montserrat brings warmth and cultural understanding to the playgroup. On one occasion during sing-along time she asked every child how we say hello in our native language and incorporated our greetings into a song. The Multicultural Playgroup needs a multicultural facilitator that engages well with the children and parents. Montserrat is an absolute gem!

Montserrat is more than an educator—she is a source of warmth, consistency, and cultural connection for the children and families who attend the playgroup. Her thoughtful approach to early childhood education, especially with children from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds, sets her apart. She communicates with care and respect, often incorporating multiple languages, songs, and activities that create a strong sense of belonging. She makes intentional efforts to celebrate diversity and foster inclusion. From creating Ramadan cards for Muslim families to acknowledging Reconciliation Week, Montserrat ensures that families from all backgrounds feel recognised and valued. These actions, while seemingly small, have a profound impact—helping children feel proud of who they are and where they come from. Her ability to build trusting relationships with both children and parents, particularly those new to English or navigating life in a new country, makes the playgroup a safe and supportive space for all. Her knowledge, empathy, and inclusive mindset are not easily replaced. While we appreciate the contributions of all staff, Montserrat brings unique strengths and a deep commitment to multicultural education that are vital to the continued success of the program. Her presence is not only appreciated—it is essential. We respectfully ask Communicare to reconsider any decisions that would lead to her departure. Keeping Montserrat in her role will preserve the inclusive, welcoming environment we’ve come to rely on and cherish.

I absolutely adore Monserrat, she does a lot of fun activities for the kids, and my boy really enjoyed her sessions. We attend the Rivervale session and hope it can be reinstated with her leading the session.

Montserrat, who is a passionate and dedicated professional. Her commitment to supporting children and their families in the community is evident in everything she does. Montserrat approaches her work with genuine care, compassion, and professionalism, always striving to make a positive impact. She builds strong, trusting relationships with both children and parents, and her ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds is truly commendable. Montserrat is a valuable asset to the “COMMUNICARE” community and family support.
