We can all agree that in order to have a great school for students to thrive in, you must have at its core outstanding and caring teachers. Mrs. Rachel Lang of Oxford Preparatory Academy South Orange County (OPA-SOC) is exactly that type of teacher, providing her students over her tenure at OPA-SOC a wonderful teaching classroom and environment for her students to thrive, grow, and learn.

Mrs. Rachel Lang’s employment was separated from OPA-SOC involuntarily at the conclusion of this school year, which caught many of our OPA families by surprise.

Her responsibility and commitment to her students are unquestioned, but really was on display in extraordinary measure in 2019-2020 as we all had to adjust to remote learning in this Covid-19 environment. She was the voice of calm, hope, fairness, and reason to not only her Kindergarten students, but also for us parents, who she often guided and reassured that we could partner with her and provide exceptional distance learning to our OPA champions during these unprecedented times.

OPA’s motto of “We believe that all students are unique and gifted individuals” is better served with teachers like Mrs. Lang, who not only instilled in her students Respect for Others, Integrity of Character, and Spirit of Unselfishness, but also embodied and displayed those OPA tenets herself--everyday--for her students to model and emulate. Her commitment to her students and her professionalism we feel truly made a mark on both our OPA champions, as well as the school.

We the undersigned want to voice our strong displeasure and opposition that this decision was made, and respectfully request for the Oxford Preparatory Academy Board of Directors to further investigate the grounds for Mrs. Lang’s dismissal. We also kindly ask that the Board of Directors reverse this decision and push for her reinstatement.

Kind regards,

Parents for Our Beloved Mrs. Lang

As a retired teacher, I know the commitment, understanding and passion it takes to be an awesome educator. I have been in (and outside) Rachel’s classroom and know her energy, dedication and love.

My kid was in Mrs. Lang's kinder class this past year. She knew exactly where to pinpoint for my kid's improvement, being it behavior or academic, and pushed her in an positive, encouraging way. My kid's eyes sparkled each time she saw Mrs. Lang. Please keep Mrs. Lang!

Ms. Lang is one of the most creative and caring teachers. She has been involved in cheer, yearbook and has helped with after school sports. She does many MI activities in her classroom and it would be a shame to lose her!

Mrs Lang was the best teacher my son ever had. He grew so much in his 5th grade year. He learned responsibility and integrity and to push himself to do his best work. Mrs Lang instilled all of this in him.

Mrs. Lang was an exceptional educator who has a genuine passion for teaching. We don’t know how we could have managed the last a few months without her unrelenting guidance and support: she was the wind beneath our wings! We need more of Mrs. Lang to guide our children to become future leaders of our communities. We need her back at OPA!

Mrs. Lang was an amazing teacher. We had a 100% better experience this year in kindergarten With her than we did last year in kindergarten with another teacher at Oxford. Her classroom and flexible seating for the kids was superior to either of the other 2 kinder teachers and her passion and love for teaching the kids was even more evident in distance learning teaching. Our daughter adores her and revived in her class.

I am still finding it hard to believe and accept that an exceptional teacher like Mrs. Lang was let go. She is a one-of-a kind teacher who always wanted and made sure that her students do their best. She didn’t freely give out awards just to make her students feel good, but she made sure that her students earn, deserve, and are motivated by any award they’ll get. Judging from the extra efforts she put into her students’ learning, I can tell that she really loves her job which is why she is so good at it. To her, teaching is not just a job, but also her passion. Her resourcefulness and organizational skills made it easier for us to manage our child’s remote learning experience during the school shutdown. She also put extra effort in putting together memories and keepsakes that our children will treasure. During the parents’ orientation, she made caramel-dipped apples for each parent which symbolized the time and effort she put into each of our child’s education. At the end of the schoolyear, she put together customized memory books and nicely labeled treats and trinkets for each of her students, letting them know how special they are to her. On the last day of school, i asked my daughter what she’ll miss most in Kindergarten, and she said she’ll miss Mrs. Lang, and this was before we found out she was let go. Mrs. Lang is a treasure and an asset the school, and it is with utmost respect that we plead the administration and board of directors to please bring her back. She made a difference in our child’s life, and i hope you’ll provide her the opportunity to do the same to future students of OPA. Thank you!
